Materials Not Returned on Time

The main purpose of the library is to make its materials available to as many users as possible. Therefore, a late fee is charged when materials are not returned on time.

  • A daily late fee is charged for materials that are not returned by the due date. For borrowed reserve/reference materials, a late fee is charged for each hour they are overdue.
  • Late fees are charged only for days when the library is open.
  • Late fees cannot be cancelled. Library staff do not have the authority to cancel or postpone these fees.
  • Users who have overdue materials and unpaid late fees cannot borrow new books from the library.
  • For general collection materials, the late fee is 3 TL per material for each overdue day.
  • For reserve/reference collection materials, the late fee is 3 TL per material for each overdue hour.
  • Late fees are not paid in cash at the library. The fee must be deposited into the bank account specified by the University. The user must show the payment receipt to the library.

Damaged or Lost Materials

The following rules apply if a borrowed material is damaged, partially or completely damaged, or lost:

  • If a borrowed material is lost or damaged, the user should normally obtain and give the same publication to the library.
  • For each replacement material, a 50 TL processing fee is charged for procedures such as adding a barcode and security strip.
  • If the user does not replace a lost or damaged material even though it is still available for sale:
    • If the material is not overdue: Price of the material + 50 TL processing fee
    • If the material is overdue: Late fee + Price of the material + 50 TL processing fee
  • If the lost or damaged material is out of print, no longer available for sale, or cannot be obtained for another reason, the user must pay twice the current price of the material.
    • If the material is not overdue: Twice the current price + 50 TL processing fee
    • If the material is overdue: Late fee + Twice the current price + 50 TL processing fee
  • For publications obtained from abroad, the price is calculated according to the exchange rate announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye on that day.
  • If a user’s relationship with the University ends, any unreturned materials and any responsibilities related to late returns, lost materials, or damaged materials are handled according to Article 21 of this Directive.
