AIM
To equip graduate students in geophysics and related fields with a theoretical understanding of basic seismology. Emphasis is on the application of global seismology to the study of earthquakes and Earth structure.
CONTENT
This course contains; Overview of Engineering Seismology,Seismotectonics,Seismometers,Elasticity,Seismic wave equation,Plane waves in isotropic, layered, elastic media,Seismic sources,Ray theory for 1-D Earth models,Attenuation,Surface waves and free oscillations,Anisotropy,Earthquakes,Seismic hazard analysis,Student presentations of term projects.
